BDA joins international meeting on family planning services in Indonesia

The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) attended Bi-National Annual Steering Committee Meeting through South-South Cooperation (SSC) between Indonesia and the Philippines organized by the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) and Commission on Population (POPCOM) Philippines on December 17-18, 2015 at Bali, Indonesia.

The meeting aimed to review on the implementation of 2015 SSC between Indonesia and the Philippines; to agree on the joint annual work plan 2016; and to share the Indonesian experience on the implem entation of family planning services under the universal health coverage.

Mohammad Yacob, BDA executive director said that UNFPA invited BDA in said activity as one of its partners.

He also stated in an interview that BDA shared the outcome of the BDP particular in Health thematic area during the activity.

“Actually, we shared the outcome of the BDP, if what are the programs of the agency anchored in BDP that will be implemented once the Bangsamoro Government will established,” he said.

“We also presented that BDP has a data of the need to increase the number of doctors and health workers in Barangays that could support in the reproductive health especially in the Bangsamoro,” Yacob added.

Abouth 25 participants from Indonesia like BKKBN Chairperson, deputy for training and development, Director, Center for Institutional Training and Collaboration, Director of Jalpen, Jalswa, Pulin staff, UNFPA representative and staff, MOH (Director of maternal health), PKBI, POPCOM Philippines Exec. Dir., Planning section, Regional Director(s) and consultant; DOH-ARMM, LGUs in Mindanao, MRLs, and partner stakeholders attended the 2-day meeting.

Accordingly, South-South Cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines on the Family Planning and other related issues has been implemented based on Memorandum of Understanding signed in Manila by Chairperson of BKKBN and Executive director of Population Commission on August 30, 2012.

BDA is currently in partnership with UNFPA for the program on “Strengthening Capacities for RH Service Delivery and Advocacy in the Bangsamoro” being a trust fund recipient (TFR).

The implementing partners were the Bangsamoro Medical Society (BMS) and Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI).
