BDA, OPAPP commit to stay on course

The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) headed by executive director Mohammad Yacob met with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Jesus Dureza on February 6, 2017 at the latter’s office in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

In the meeting, both parties discussed how the government under the present administration can assist the BDA in the pursuit of peace and development in the Bangsamoro and its adjacent areas.

“I always mention this unique model of peace process with the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) whenever I talk with various stakeholders related to peace and development”, Sec. Dureza said.

“The road to peace is not a paved road, it has its humps, bumps and curves. It is long and winding road. Thus, I enjoined everyone to stay on course and lets work as one towards the attainment of lasting peace in Mindanao”, Dureza highlighted.

BDA executive director Yacob thanked OPAPP Sec. Dureza for accommodating the BDA in his office. He conveyed that “with more than 14 years of operation on various peace and development works, the BDA is now one of the leading development organizations, if not the leading one, that has gained the trust and confidence of the grassroots Bangsamoro communities, government agencies, non-government organizations and international development partners”.

“The BDA has had parallel opportunities of going through the entire project and development management cycle, be it at the level of community or at the higher regional or sub-national perspective, Yacob added.

One of the highlights of the said meeting was the hand-over of the Bangsamoro Development Plan (BDP) medium to long term phase of the economy and infrastructure thematic areas, better known as BDP 2, by the BDA to Sec. Dureza.

As next step, OPAPP committed to accompany the BDA to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to present officially the BDP 2 with other government line agencies.

Sec. Dureza was joined by GPH Peace Implementing Panel chairperson Irene Santiago and Usec. Diosita Andot.

Also present were BDA deputy executive director Engr. Windel Diangcalan, and BDA planning, monitoring and evaluation division head Engr. Ismail Guiamel..
