1,415 food-for-work beneficiaries receive rice thru UNWFP supported BDA program

Reaping the fruit of success were 1,415 beneficiaries in 3 municipalities in Maguindanao on August 20, 2015 by receiving corresponding kilo/s of rice from the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) through Community Empowerment thru Food Sufficiency and Environmental Management (CEFSEM) program supported by the United Nations-World Food Programme (UNWFP).

The beneficiaries are participants to the food-for-work component of the program wherein activities included construction of road dike and drainage canal, that helped in the flood-control and irrigation to the community.

There were 2,129 sacks of rice distributed to the beneficiaries.

Distribution activities was led by BDA quick response team (QRT) under the agency’s social welfare program.

According to Amiruddin Gani, CEFSEM program coordinator, breakdown of rice distribution were as follows: 245 sacks in barangay Masulot and 292 in Brgy. Darampua all in Sultan sa Barongis; 150 in Brgy. Lower Idtig, 60 in Brgy. Kaladturan, 98 in Brgy. Panusulen and 467 in Upper Lasangan all in Gen.SKP; 700 sacks of rice in Brgy. Matilak and 117 in Brgy. Maitong all in Kabuntalan.

Gani said that the work norm for this program is 5 kilograms of rice in every 1.5 cubic meters volume of work.

CEFSEM is implemented by the BDA. Under the program, communities are encouraged to participate in food-for-work and food-for-training activities where they can get benefits not only in kind of rice but also of the great result of the activities in their life and their community.

Many beneficiaries have already accounted benefits of road dike, drainage canals and trainings to their lives and communities e.g. better road access.
