BDA Central Mindanao region trains farmers in Sultan Mastura municipality on Vegetable Production

The Community Development in Conflict Affected Areas in Mindanao (CD-CAAM) Project implemented by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) conducted training on Vegetable Production in Barangay Macabiso, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao on November 12 to 14, 2013.
The objective of the activity is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants on vegetable production technology including organic and natural farming, nursery establishment and management, and companion planting.
A total of 20 farmer-beneficiaries from the said barangay were gathered in the three-day activity to be equipped them with a combination of lecture and hands-on training.
The first day of the training is consumed for the topics on vegetable production and vegetable management. The succeeding days were consumed for the actual training on the processes of vegetable production.
Resource persons of the said training were from the Upi Agricultural School (UAS). They were Dr. Felicidad de Guzman, Head, Research and Extension Department, Mr. Marlon Garrigues and Mr. Alimudin Belon.
The local government unit of the Sultan Mastura showed support to the activity through Mr. Ibrahim Alimpang, Municipal Agricultural Officer (MAO).
As immediate follow through on the 3-day training on vegetable production, field activity was conducted on November 20, 2013 in the farm site of Brgy. Macabiso. Farmers-beneficiaries demonstrated their skills on seed bedding, plotting and companion planting.
An expert from Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA), Mr. Takumi Kawahara was there in the activity for a visit and observation as part of their Mission Visit to program partners implementing their projects in this part of Mindanao. JICA is supporting the BDA in the implementation of CD-CAAM project in partnership with the ICNet Limited.
