The Barangay Community Volunteers (BCVs) in Sarangani Province undergo Values Enhancement Training (VET) aimed at enriching them further with good values significant to their role as stakeholders of peace and development in the grassroots.

The VET is a three-day activity facilitated by trained facilitators and community organizers of Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA)-Southern Mindanao (SouthMin) Regional Management Office.

BCVs of Barangays Tuyan and Lun Masla in Malapatan, Maguling in Maitum and Daliao in Maasim had already finished the VET from December 2013 to the first two weeks of January 2014.

Similar activity will be conducted in Barangays Libi in Malapatan, Lumasal and Amsipit in Maasim and Ticulab and Mindupok in Maitum this last week of January until early February.

During the workshop, when asked on what values are detrimental to community development and values are contributory to a progressive and peaceful community, majority of the BCVs agreed that dishonesty, indolence, and being passive hinder community development.

They said that truthfulness, being God-fearing and cooperative should be possessed by the community members to achieve progress.

The facilitators reminded the BCVs to uphold good values as leaders or followers of their respective organizations.

The VET is part of the capacity-building initiatives given to the BCVs to strengthen their respective People’s Organization (POs). The BCVs have already undergone Values Transformation Training (VTT) conducted by BDA.

BDA requires the POs to undertake VTT and VET prior to the sub-project implementation.

The POs will be entrusted for the establishment and management of sub-projects under the Mindanao Trust Fund Reconstruction and Development Program (MTFRDP) administered by the World Bank.

The BDA which facilitates implementation of development projects under MTFRDP is tasked to determine, lead and manage relief, rehabilitation and development projects in the conflict affected areas of Mindanao.

The subprojects will be implemented with the support of the Barangay Councils, Municipal Local Government Units and the Provincial Local Government Units of Sarangani.

Most of the subproject proposals are post harvest facilities and fishing equipments. Barangay Lun Masla has proposed the establishment of water system.
