Series of public event “kanduli” on child protection in progress

Series of public event dubbed as “kanduli” is happening in line with the implementation of the joint action plan on the promotion of child protection by the United Nations (UN) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The latest of which is today, September 7, 2015 at Panusulan, GSKP in Maguindanao province.

According to Lemia Nando, BDA focal person on UN-MILF Action Plan, the highlight of the event is the declaration of commitment to the Article No. 3 of the Action which states that “No Child under the age of 18 years shall be admitted into BIAF”.

Declaration of commitment was witnessed by the member of five-man panel of the MILF and Shree Nadarajah, child protection specialist from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

After declaration, a cultural presentation was presented by the members of the community.

It was further reported that the event was also part of the campaign on “Children Not Soldier” which is a call for the stop of the use of children in armed conflict.

It is aimed at promoting the rights and protection of children and preventing them from being recruited to any military-related or conflict activities.

To note, said campaign was launched in May 18, 2015 at Cotabato City attended by officials from the MILF, the UNICEF and other child advocates.
