BDA-Zambopen conducts training on strengthening child protection in Tahderiyyah

Sixty (60) participants from various committees of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) got trained by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) and United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF) under its program on Child Protection (CP) policy and school protocol for Tahderiyyah centers on September 16-17, 2016 at El Nido Bay Plaza Hotel, Pagadian City.

These MILF committees are: Tarbiyyah (education), Da’wah (religious affairs) and social welfare (involving women).

Tahderiyyah administrator Esmael Tingkay expressed his gratitude to the BDA and UNICEF for this opportunity to educated on child protection concerns.

Tingkay said, “the participants, especially members of the CP Committee (CPC) had expounded their ideas and even enlightened them on policies and protocols related to the promotion and protection of the rights of every child”.

He further said, “the training workshop was focused on common cases of children’s rights and some violations that might be encountered by them, including but not limited to: child abuses, exploitation, bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination and other similar act”.

“Having this training, we will be, in effect, nurturing our children towards a better quality of life for the advancement of the future Bangsamoro”, he added.

The activity, facilitated by UNICEF-BDA staff, was conducted under Tahderiyyah CP component of BDA.

The Tahderiyyah program is a product of UNICEF and BDA’s collaborative efforts to reach out children in conflict-affected areas (CAAs) in Mindanao. It aims to facilitate easy access to quality Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) services and Basic Education to the CAAs.

The program was piloted in 2009 and, now implementing of about 335 schools in Bangsamoro regions.
