Basilan community volunteers undergo financial literacy training

In line with the on-going implementation of the Bangsamoro Assistance for Development and Community Empowerment (ADVANCE) by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), 21 members of the People’s Organization (PO) in Barangay Ulitan, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan underwent training on Financial Literacy Management on September 5-6, 2016 at a local venue of the said barangay.

The activity aimed to educate the community volunteers about the financial aspect of their proposed project. It was facilitated by Iman M. Pangandaman, finance officer; Faris Alauddin, accountant/budget officer/data base officer; Hamdi I. Tanjil – accounting clerk and; Cherry-Han Tebogsol, training officer, from the BDA Zamboanga-Basilan Regional Management Office (RMO).

Zamboanga-Basilan Regional Management Office (RMO) is based in Isabela City.

Accordingly, this will help the PO members be capacitated of enough knowledge and skills that are necessary as they undertake their roles and responsibilities in the operation and management of the sub-project identified for their community.

It was noted that the peoples organization of Barangay Ulitan is proposing for a construction of warehouse with solar dryer thru a community-wide consultation and validation.

During the training, Hussain Sapaat, a community religious leader expressed appreciation of the knowledge acquired.

“Above all would like to thanks Allah (SWT) for the education we have just obtained as the blessing does not come from any politicians or iconic personality but rather from our brothers and sisters working for Bangsamoro cause”, Sapaat stated.

Bangsamoro ADVANCE, with 50 sites, is in support to the confidence building measures of the GPH- MILF as provided in the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB). This was also in respond to the clamour from the communities especially on the implementation of basic services including livelihood opportunities.

It is implemented by BDA in partnership with the Community and Family Services International (CFSI) as trust fund recipient.

The program is supported by the MTF with various donors such as such as the European Union, the Swedish International Development Agency, the Australian Embassy Philippines, Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development of Canada, the United States Agency for International Development, the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the World Bank which also serves as Trust Fund Administrator.
