BDA joins BEAM-ARMM sponsored training on data analysis
The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) through the Tahderiyyah Program (TP) particularly its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) component recently attended Training on Statistics Using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) on August 24-26, 2016 held at EM Manor Hotel, Cotabato City.
Marbawi Edza, Tahderiyyah Program M&E Officer said, in an interview, that attending the said that the training is in line with the unified management information system they are currently doing towards strengthening of M&E system of the Program.
It was spearheaded by the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM)-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for its partners like BDA together with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); BRAC, Department of Education (DepED) ARMM and GIZ.
“In this training, we learned how to analyse all the available data in our system since all the data of our programs are already uploaded in the system. So, it helped us a lot because in analysing our data, at least we already have a guide how we can analyse it carefully,” Edza said.
i-Metrics, as service provider, facilitated the 3-day training.
The first part of the activity focused on the overview of software called ‘PS_imago Pro (IBM SPSS) where the facilitator presented to the participants the basic operation which they can use in analysing a data.
While on the second part, the participants identified available data that they can use for the purpose of workshop and discussions.
“If we just look on our responsibility in Tahderiyyah Program particularly in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) component, it helped us a lot because usually, the data are just there. We were not able to focus on it to analyse. Because of this training, we learned the better and easiest way on analysing data. From that data, what is this called data in TP operation,” Edza stressed.
Accordingly, SPSS is one of the most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with simple instructions. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive (batch) uses.
The Tahderiyyah program is another product of UNICEF and BDA’s collaborative efforts to reach children in the conflict-affected areas (CAAs) in Mindanao. It generally aims to facilitate easy access to quality Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) services and Basic Education to the CAAs.
It was piloted in 2009 and now being implemented in three 335 schools across six (6) regions (Central Mindanao, Southern Mindanao, Ranaw, Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga and Basilan, and Davao Region.
