BDA targets Tawi-Tawi for CD-CAAM livelihood support in extension phase
Rich in natural resources and with the potential for development, Tawi-Tawi province was considered for livelihood support of the project on Capacity Building for Community Development in Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao (CD-CAAM) implemented by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) on its extension phase that took off this May 21, 2015.
Tawi-Tawi province is selected as added site for this extension based on the series of analysis and study by all parties and stakeholders of the program.
“BDA have recommended the province to provide equal opportunity for development assistance, since only few of our main programs have reached Tawi-Tawi. The province has the potential and many communities there are longing for development support,” BDA executive director Mohammad S. Yacob said.
The program is now focusing on livelihood component for the same site in Sultan Mastura in Maguindanao and Matungao in Lanao del Norte.
“We have additional sites in Tawi-Tawi where same components such as agriculture and fishery except for infrastructure, but now with livelihood component,”Engr. Aida Silongan, CD CAAM program management officer said.
Livelihood is the new component of the CD-CAAM project on its extension phase.
Accordingly, an approach of technology transfer will be the program entry in the province. With this, previous training, lessons learned and success are shared to other communities for replication.
“Vegetable production, tilapia culture which were part of the pilot implementation will be carried out for Tawi-Tawi and goat production as livelihood component is the new one,”Engr. Aida added.
Technical support from the municipalities of Sultan Mastura and Matungao will also be initiated as part of the farmer-to-farmer approach and technology transfer of the CD-CAAM model.
Thirty beneficiaries from three municipalities will be targeted as the beneficiaries of the pilot project sites in Tawi-Tawi.The CD-CAAM extension phase will be until August 2016.
The project is implemented with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and in partnership with International Consultant Network (ICNet) Limited, Inc. as service provider.
