SULU-Development support happening for Sulu communities
Development might be elusive for years for the communities in Sulu province but not anymore as numerous projects and support have been extended by different organizations.
In Mungit-Mungit, Talipoao, a multi-purpose building was completed and turned over to the community on May 25, 2016 through the Comprehensive Capacity Development Project for the Bangsamoro (CCDP-B) – Quick Impact Project (QIP) co-implemented by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) and the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
For them, the project is a big help in providing formal and permanent venue for local gatherings and occasions.
Moreover, for Masnona H. Sali, President of Mungit-Mungit People’s Organization, the coming of the project made them feel significant that despite the distance, people still come to extend assistance to them.
The turn-over ceremony was graced by Dr. Norodin Salam of CCDP-B, Jodsbarie Compania, of BDA-Central Management Office (CMO) and Prof. Alih S. Aiyub, CCDP-B IOB; the barangay local government unit of Mungi-Mungit led by Chairman Liuk Manny Tulawie; Basaron Kamlon, AHJAG member/Administrator Western Mindanao Command and Malik Caril of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) WesMinCom who led the formal opening the cutting of ribbon.
Bangsamoro ADVANCE Program
Four (4) barangays in the province such as Timbangan in Indanan, Kan-Mindus in Luuk, Bud Seit in Old Panamao and Tangkuan in Omar are the recipients of the Bangsamoro Assistance for the Development and Community Empowerment (Bangsamoro-ADVANCE), a program implemented by the BDA with support from the Mindanao Trust Fund (MTF), a multi-donor fund facility administered by the World Bank.
The program will provide capacity building activities to community members to equip them of leadership skills, sub-project management and operation, including financial and procurement management necessary as they take charge of project implementation in their communities.
At present, preliminary activities are already being conducted. Provincial staff were recently coached and oriented on their roles and responsibilities and on office policies and procedures towards effective program implementation.
Tahderiyyah Program
Another support in the Sulu province is the Tahderiyyah Program implemented by the BDA.
On April 14, 2016, seventy six (76) children completed kindergarten at Ma’had Daril Jambangan Al-Islamiya. The graduation ceremony was held at Ground Floor Tulay Mosque, Jolo, Sulu.
The completers received their certificates, plus medals for outstanding pupils.
Gracing the activity were Hja. Nurunnisah A. Tan, President, SWPC, Mohammad Faizal Alih, BDA- Admin Assistant, Hja. Nurmina D. Injani, school principal and Yahya Titong, Department of Education (DepEd) Madaris Coordinator.
BDA established a provincial management office (PMO) in Sulu in 2015 together with other one in Tawi-Tawi.
Nurkadri Hamsali is the present provincial manager of BDA Sulu PMO.
