Community in Maguindanao put up flood control project thru MTF supported BDA program

A 1,194,374.02 million worth flood control project was turned over by the Bangsamoro Development Agency-Central Mindanao (BDA-CenMin) Region on August 19, 2015 at Barangay Tonggol, General Salipada K. Pendatun (GSKP), Maguindanao.

Said project which is a box culvert with sluice gate is implemented through Mindanao Trust Fund Reconstruction and Development Program (MTFRDP).

The Ebuluin Peace and Development Organization (EPDO), a people’s organization (PO) organized by BDA through the said program formally received the project during the turn-over ceremony.

According to Anwar Pangal, BDA-CenMin planning, monitoring and evaluation officer for the MTFRDP, the activity was attended by members of PO, representatives from Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Tonggol, Multi-sectoral Committee (MSC), Community and Family Service International (CFSI) and on-the-job-training (OJT) students from Mindanao State University- Maguindanao (MSUM).

“It was a moment of happiness on the part of the PO for the completion of the sub-project even beyond the project duration” Pangal stated.

In his message, Brgy. Chairman Daud N. Dalid of Tongol mentioned about the situation of the barangay being affected by flood for almost four decades resulting to damage of farming activities in the community.

“Since BDA brought this project as constructive intervention through MTFRDP, my constituents return to normal planting of rice in their farm land”, Chairman Dalid added.

He added that the sub-project contributes a lot not just to the community of Tonggol but even to the adjacent barangays such as barangays of Kulasi, Panusulen, Lao-lao, Badak, Makinis, Lumabaw and Sumakubay for it services in supplying necessary volume of water to more or less one hundred (100) hectares of agriculture land.

“It is expected that there will be increased of farm production by more than 100 % yield per”, Chairman Daud added.

BDA Cenmin Regional Manager Hashim B. Manticayan expressed gratitude to the PO, the entire community stakeholders of this barangay and all other personalities that contributed to the success of the project.

Manticayan said, “I believe that the Ebuluin Peace and Development Organization made an effort to accelerate the construction of the sub-project”.

Manticayan added that the successful implementation of the project is a very welcome achievement and development but emphasized that it is not yet the end of their engagement.

“Because you still have to continue your strong unity for collective wisdom which causes moral and spiritual development, prevail over material development in order to surely gain the long-term benefits beyond our expectation to what the project can contribute,” Manticayan ended.

MTF is fund facility administered by the World Bank and is supported by various donors such as the European Union (EU), DFAT Australia (then AusAID), DFATD Canada (then Canadian International Development Agency), New Zealand Aid for International Development, Sweden International Development Agency, and United States Aid for International Development (USAID).
